Historic Renovation | National Bank of Middlebury

A Commercial Renovation Rooted in Craft and Context

As one of Vermont’s longest-standing financial institutions, the National Bank of Middlebury (NBM) holds a prominent place in the heart of downtowns throughout Vermont. Following their push for “more inclusive, community-centered spaces, more efficient use of space, and improved energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and employee comfort,” and following VIA’s design, Silver Maple and The Woodworks helped renovate their historic flagship location on Main Street in Middlebury.

Honoring the architectural legacy of the building and creating a modern banking experience, the scope of work included a comprehensive renovation of the bank’s lobby. Custom walnut casework and approachable teller stations, handcrafted by The Woodworks, bring warmth, detail, and a sense of refreshed interiors to this commercial renovation.

Throughout the space, soft green tones and historical photos draw inspiration from the natural beauty of Vermont, while natural lighting enhances the building’s original appeal.

National Bank of Middlebury – A Historic Renovation, Reimagined for the Future

The new space feels both timeless and current, while retaining architectural character. Refreshed interiors in the National Bank of Middlebury now support the day-to-day needs of customers and staff in a space that seamlessly merges historic preservation with modern purpose.
